Whenever a major disaster strikes in a developing country or region, we often witness

countries like Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore , standing ready to

dispatch medical teams to provide emergency medical care for the sick and injured.

We recognize and truly value their contribution and dedication.

However, we have observed that most health-care practitioners (doctors, paramedics, nurses and first aid providers)

operate differently with each adopting their own set of procedures when treating the same type of injuries or illnesses.

In 2004, Asia Pre-Hospital and Fire Rescue Federation Association was inaugurated with the following

partners – Emergencies First Aid and Rescue Pte Ltd (Singapore), Fire and Rescue Association (Thailand)

and Rayamars Consultancy (Malaysia).

We share a common mission and vision – to care for the sick and injured.

During our sharing sessions, we realized we needed to re-evaluate the current emergency procedures and identify

the best practical approaches to better handle and respond to an emergency or mass casualty situation.

Hence in 2006, APFA held its first Asia Pre-Hospital Professional Rescuer Competition in Singapore.

Organizing this competition allows the participants to share and review their existing skills and knowledge.

At the same time, it encourages and supports the growing community of healthcare practitioners and

professionals to upgrade and re-equip their skills and knowledge.

Our goal is to develop and consolidate a single, comprehensive manual for the management and treatment

of these patients/victims.

And we are thrilled to announce that a 2nd Asia Pre-Hospital Professional Rescuer Competition will be held

in Thailand on 19th Dec 2010.  We hope to generate interest for more partners and professionals to participate in

continuing their education and training programmes to more effectively and efficiently prepare for any emergency.

Mr James Teo

President / Chairman of APFA (Singapore)

Managing Director of Emergencies First Aid & Rescue Pte Ltd
